Would anyone in the area happen to have 1 or 2 wiimotes (and chucks?) I could borrow for the next 11 days or so, or maybe - as we've been talking about wanting more than 2 when all 3 of us are together - even buy?

Don't ask why they got packed separately from the Wii...

Thanks!
25th-Jun-2009 01:22 am - Last BCXX update!

http://wp.baitcon.org/2009/06/25/final-prebcxx-notes/

On the road tomorrow morning!
NYD'09
Many things got updated or created.

Good thing, too, as we're almost there!

See http://wp.baitcon.org/2009/06/18/8-days-to-baitcon-xx/ for a list of the changes and additions. I'd also like to suggest you read them all. :)
12th-Jun-2009 04:47 pm - Who am I meme...
NYD'09
I like [info]redjo's phrasing:
Ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should maybe be obvious, but you have no idea about.

I'll try to answer sometime in the next few months. :)

A) Tshirt orders ( http://wp.baitcon.org/what-is-baitcon/products-page/ ) close tomorrow at NOON.
We're going to make a few extras, but not that many!
(Orders are _really_ low... There HAVE been technical issues, so if you tried before and failed, please try again. Also, please give us a real email address in case I need to ask you something about your order. Thanks!)

B) A contra dance needs musicians. As we've shown in the past, musicians need music! [info]coraline is organizing both of these things. She will have music available for download soon, and would also like to know who is coming and is interested in playing, and what it is that you play.

You can comment here, but better would be to mail contra dash 2009 at baitcon dot org

Thanks!
5th-Jun-2009 07:26 pm - Lots of baitcon updates...
NYD'09
Over the past week, a number of updates have happened on the website and the LJ.

Take a look. :)

(Another major web update is due for Monday, I think it is.)
31st-May-2009 02:29 am - Baitcon: Latest site update's up!
NYD'09
Rather than duplicate it here:
http://www.baitcon.org/2009/05/31/531-update/

(And the 'posts' have an RSS feed available, too. Don't add it here, though, please?)

T-shirt sales are well below expectations. Is this a conscious decision on everyone's part, or is there just lameness?
22nd-May-2009 09:00 pm - physical help neede this weekend
NYD'09
So, I know I didn't refresh my moving karma at all over the last batch of moves, but if anyone's around this weekend and is willing to help me with some stuff around the house, somke of which will involve lifting and hauling... only one thing of any size up any stairs though... please please let me know? My schedule will be adjusted to yours.

Thanks in advance...

She'll update in her own journal when she's up to it.
18th-May-2009 11:01 am - Baitcon: We're on!
NYD'09
We've made our minimums!
Yay!
(Not that people shouldn't keep responding! ;)

(BTW, as we haven't been totally clear: We're asking people to _pay_ by the deadlines, not to just rsvp. We're also asking people to use the registration forms 1x per person, rather than just to reply for multiple people.)
NYD'09
We know that the economic downturn has hit many of us pretty hard. And summer offers many options and too little vacation time. Registrations numbers for Baitcon XX are currently well below the minimum number of people needed in order to host the event. If we have not reached the minimum (100 adults) by our cancellation deadline of May 26th, we will regrettably have to cancel the event for this year.

If you are planning to attend, please consider registering soon!

(You may have some idea just how little I want to see this eventuality come to pass...)
(Also posted to [info]baitcon)
11th-May-2009 02:25 am - Baitcon... Whither the RSVPs??
NYD'09
I know I'm jinxing myself by posting this, but I don't know in which direction.... where are all the RSVPs?

I'm trying not to panic here... it's only been a couple weeks... but still.
8th-May-2009 02:13 am - The Legend starts today!
NYD'09
So, according to the following screen shot...
It's Goat Day!
today's the day of the Goat Story.

Maybe sometime or another we'll find out what happened... in the mean time... well, it's Legen....wait for it... dary!
6th-May-2009 11:57 am - Ghost for OS X?
NYD'09
Has anyone done any work building an installed system+apps image on OS X, to then be Ghosted (or whatever package there is that does the same) on to other systems?

If so, any statements on how long the set-up takes, and how long each subsequent build takes? Also, what package do you like for this?

Thanks!
5th-May-2009 10:41 am - study halls?
NYD'09
Is there anyone out there (Bostonish, of course) who has been thinking that we need more study-hall-like opportunities? I have, and though I can't host, I'd love to partake in such. Let me know if you've got such a thing happening, or have been thinking of such...

3rd-May-2009 03:21 am - DW: Invitation to psychodrama?
NYD'09
Is it just me, or is Dreamwidth's notification (and publishing of the info in your profile) that A has not only 'given you access' but also 'subscribed' to you inviting and escalating the already rampant (though largely settled down in my circles, but not entirely) psychodrama about "I friended {foo} but they haven't friended me back"?

Now you can have "They don't read me AND they don't let me read them" or "they've STOPPED reading me" or "They're stalking me, but I can't read their stuff" or whatever. I'm really not seeing how this is a benefit over filters/Default View where you can stop reading someone's writings (by taking them off of whatever filters you read) but still keep them as a 'friend'.

Anyone?

24th-Apr-2009 02:46 pm - anyone coming down to neffa tonight?

17th-Apr-2009 04:15 pm - Notary Enabled again!
NYD'09
As more people have asked me for notary services in the past 2 months than perhaps in the last 12 - or at least 6 - and I've had to turn you down for want of the right seal/stamp, let me now publicly announce that I'm all set, I have my new seal, and I'm ready to notarize again.

My commission expires 2/25/2016.
16th-Apr-2009 01:07 am - RIP: George Kaufman
NYD'09
So, a couple of months ago (late Mar., it seems), I was poking around the net, looking for various music of my childhood - The Rousers, Dizzy And The Romilars, Nastyfacts, Hi-Sherrifs Of Blue - the various artists who were on Jimboco Records for its short and not-well-known lifetime around 79-8(3?)ish. (I _think_ someone in my middle/high-school might've been related to Ramona Lee Jan of Dizzy... or just had a taste for obscure pop/etc. in the 7th-10th grade.)

So there was one more band on Jimboco - one that actually became vaguely well known: The Nails. You know... 88 Lines About 44 Women...
Back when I was buying ALMOST all of Jimboco's catalog - which was 5 singles and 3? eps, I think - I bought only 4 of the singles for some reason and now can't remember the name of the last band - I bought The Nails' single and EP.

The Nails were seemingly founded by a guy named Marc Campbell - (www.marccampbell.com), and included among others brothers Dave and George Kaufman.

So, during that night of surfing, I found that googling "Ramona Jan" will end you up at Nastyfacts myspace page and from there it's not too far over to http://www.gmkmg.com/ - George Kaufman's site.

It was there that I discovered that their 2 major label albums, "Mood Swing" and "Dangerous Dreams" had been finally released on CD (I ordered them from CDBaby that night), and that I found that George had a whole pile of random Nails (and others) tunes available for download, as well as having done various interesting things over the years, which he'd documented online. I pulled a pile of stuff that night which I've been enjoying since.

Tonight the "Seven Points Gang" tunes started playing, and as I'd just gotten them not that long ago and I didn't remember from where, I googled my way back over to http://www.gmkmg.com/ and found on the front page:
-----
To all the friends and visitors of George's website:

We are deeply saddened to announce the untimely passing of

George on 3/8/09.
-----
Damn. I didn't know him, but I've been listening to his music for 25+ years, and am saddened by his passing - just as I'd found him again, pretty much.

Timing. The essence of... something.

(Hm. I thought I knew the timeline here, but it may be that, due to the links described in the 1st paragraph, I was looking at the stuff in the 2nd paragraph a couple of months before the stuff in the 1st, so there's not actually any linkage there. I don't know. Ah well.)
= = = = =
To tie this to the post I made back when I was 1st re-finding all of this (See: this)
(Nastyfacts, Nails, Rousers songs are all easily available. I haven't gone looking for the Hi-Sherrifs yet. Dizzy isn't. I'll be ripping the single (and the flexi-single cover of Bowie's TVC-15) and maybe the EP tonight.)
6th-Apr-2009 11:31 pm - Passover '09 - Day -3 (and some -2)
NYD'09
16# of chicken to start - whole fowls cut down, but the breast meat removed for later cooking separately. 10q of water. I hope this ends up in the right ballpark. Certainly, there will be much schmaltz (Hi, [info]boymeat!) for the matzah balls.

3x batch of those planned.

About 13# of apples and 3# walnuts ready for turning in to charoset, starting tomorrow.

Also I'll be doing the eggs tomorrow and putting together (and buying?) the fish for the fishcakes.

(http://www.google.com/search?q=dizzy+and+the+romilars - the lead singer was on this episode, it seems.)
(I have their single and EP, and a 12" single she did as "Nursery School"... I found http://www.myspace.com/nastyfacts (which lead me to "KB TuffNStuff, drag king of the blues", and also to the handy tool http://file2hd.com/ ) and http://www.therousers.com/ as part of all this digging around, but I've not found this episode...

I have this vague notion I might've come across it once via tivo, but I really want to see it with full awareness of who I'm watching.

(Edited 4/11: It's airing within the next 2 weeks. Tivo's getting it for me.)

The one advantage ofnot finding out a planned run to Redbones has been cancelled until after you get to Redbones is that you don't have to figure out where to have dinner after you find out.

Too bad the counter's full with one big party who isn't leaving...
